INTRODUCTION

Vulcan 84 is the first automated workstation combining the two essential steps of sample preparation – Digestion and Work-up. It is capable of automatic and precise addition of acids and reagents and monitoring temperature of Teflon® coated graphite hot blocks. During the process Vulcan 84 can handle various events such as sample mixing, levelling, cooling and transfer which simplify the critical tasks of sample preparation.

Vulcan 84 is a complete solution for automated sample preparation which accepts samples and returns prepared autosampler racks ready to be analysed. It also brings in:

•Hot Blocks (QBlock Digesters)
o Rated to 230°C and can even handle HClO4 digestions
o Two QBlocks controlled independently and simultaneously
o Each QBlock accepts 42 x 50ml sample vials
o Teflon® coated graphite block and housing to prevent contamination
o Effective sample cooling during and at the end of the digestion process
o Accepts polypropylene, glass and Teflon® vials

• Acid and Reagent Deliveryo Syringe-based accurate and consistent delivery
o Six dedicated lines
o Capable of handling corrosive acids like HF and HClO4

•Sample Work-up
o Samples levelled up to volume after digestion with the help of level sensor
o Vigorous mixing through rapid stream of air bubbles
o Two-chambers wash station for cleaning the probes between two sample runs
o Accepts and prepares autosampler racks from various vendors
o Possibility of multiple dilutions for one sample

· System Enclosure
o No metal parts, all plastic construction suitable for trace level sample preparation
o Built-in fumehood with laminar flow exhaust for acid fume removal

o Positive air pressure in electronic section prevents acid corrosion
