Solvent Evaporator

Introduction to Solvent Evaporators

S-EVAP-RB Model
No. 12065

The Series S-EVAP-RB™ and S-EVAP-KD™ are compact bench-top sizeinstruments for concentrating large volumes of solvent in round flasksor Kuderna-Danish flasks. They find use in environmental and otheranalysis where it is necessary to concentrate extracted materials fromliquid or solid samples. This is accomplished by boiling the solvent ina healed water bath. Waste solvent is collected for furtherpurification and reuse or for disposal. The process is fast and solventloss is minimal.

Features:
6 models will handle 5 to 8 samples at one tine.
Flask sizes from 125 ml to 1000 ml.
Thermostatically controlled water bath provides heat.
Shallow bath for round flasks or deep hath for the Kuderna-Danish flasks.
Solvent-recovery hardware is standard on all units.
Complete systems are bench-top size and can be operated in an exhaust hood or a properly ventilated laboratory.

Methylene Chloride 40° C 90° C 20 ml 11 min
Hexane 69° C 95° C 12 ml 17 min

Pentane 36° C 85° C 22 ml 9 min
Acetone 56° C 92° C 17 ml 12 min
The bath temperature is set 30° to 50° C above the solvent boilingpoint. This overcomes the insulating effect of the glassware and heallosses above the bath and at the condenser. Condensers are cooled to10° C with individual collection flasks installed. The ratio ofrecovered solvent to starting solvent averages 97% .

The instrument consists of a base and stand assembly‚ mounted in ashallow bath. The entire instrument rotates so that all samples areaccessible from the front. Round flasks sit on a cover disk and areheated by hot water and steam. Solvents with boiling points up to 65° Ccan be handled. For maximum beat transfer‚ jar shaped flasks can beimmersed directly into the bath water. An optional vacuum manifoldpermits solvents with boiling points up to 90° C to be processed.

The condenser water supply includes a flow meter‚ rigid supply tube‚rotating inlet/drain port‚ parallel supply/return manifolds and aflexible return tube. Quick disconnect fittings are used on themanifolds. The system can be connected to a bench cold-water tap. Arefrigerated water chiller is recommended as an accessory for improvedcontrol of condenser temperature and water conservation.

The 4.5-inch deep‚ stainless steel water bath is thermostaticallycontrolled and will accurately maintain water temperature from 30° to100° C. It is equipped with a water level device‚ a high temperaturelimit switch and a GFCI electrical plug for safety. An intrinsicallysafe‚ purged case is available as an option. The bath is UL/CULapproved for laboratory use.

S-EVAP-RB Features:
Three models available in 5‚ 8 or 10 positions for 250 ml or 500 ml flasks.
Compact size takes minimal bench space.
Suitable for oil and grease analysis using Freon and other approved solvents.
Concentrates extracted materials from Soxhlet operations.
Recovers 97% of starting solvent volume.
Vacuum manifold available as an option to handle solvents with boiling points up to 90° C.

S-EVAP-KD Features:
Eight models available in 5‚ 8 or 10 positions for 250 to 1000 ml Kuderna-Danish flasks.
Insulated concentrator tubes delay evaporation to dryness. Non-insulated tubes also available.
Choice of two solvent collection methods: Individual flasks at eachcondenser or one large central flask with tubing and fittings.
Glassware is easily loaded and removed.
Water manifold uses quick-disconnect fittings for easy set up and removal of condensers.
